The Pekalongan City Arts Council together with the Pekalongan Painter Community held an exhibition entitled "Pekalongan Painter Expressions" which was held from 15 to 23 December 2007. Hundreds of paintings were neatly displayed in the open space on the 3rd floor of Pekalongan Mall located in the Banjarsari Market Area on Saturday, December 22 2007.

The paintings consist of various genres and themes which are deliberately exhibited for the general public. Several painters who also exhibited their works were Agus Tanto, Tamagung, Jombor M Arifin, Taufik, and Aan Jindan. There were 43 painters displaying their canvas paintings at the event.

There are also painters who express their work on the surface of egg shells. So in total there are about 150 paintings on display. Jombor M. Arifin, as the Exhibition Coordinator, said that the exhibition was a form of socialization and the awakening of Pekalongan painters to the community.

This is because most of the Pekalongan painters are still working for their surroundings. Lack of a wide network causes them to rarely hold exhibitions both inside and outside the city. Only certain communities usually hold exhibitions.

In fact, the Pekalongan painters have high potential. This is evidenced by the number of painters who are able to paint on various media other than canvas, for example eggshells. The flow of paintings they choose also varies from abstract, contemporary, classic batik to realist.

So, the Pekalongan Painter's Expression exhibition was held to stimulate the life of painting in the city. Not only professional painters have the opportunity to participate in this exhibition, but beginner painters can also take part in it. Each exhibitor can display a maximum of 3 paintings.
